Sunshine! Hoo-rah!
After weeks of rain, we finally have a glimpse of some sunshine in England!  Now, I am not sure how long the sunshine is going to last but hopefully this is an indication that the british summer is now starting (even if it does last a week).  Oh how i’ve missed the sun lighting up the countryside and bringing the birds and making the flowers bloom.
It seems that as soon as the suns out, everyone is in their summer gear and to be honest, I don’t blame them!  Got to enjoy it while is stays as we don’t know when we might get it here.  Everyone that I have seen today has been in the summer spirit with dresses, vest shirts, skirts, you name it i’ve seen them wearing it today and oh my does it make a change to see bright clothes instead of gloomy colours like grey.
I hope everyone has a nice day and go and enjoy the sunshine while it lasts!  However, you can definitely gaurentee that once it gets to the weekend and you’re off work, it’ll get gloomy and rain again as it does usually!  Gutted if it does.
Much love.

My Thoughts and Advice on Quitting Smoking

I thought as my third post I would express my thoughts about quitting smoking, as a pre-smoker myself, I never thought in this entire world that I would be able to give the habit up but do you know what?  I managed to do it and I haven’t touched a fag since but once starting, and during, quitting I realised what important factors I think people need to consider before quitting smoking.  The factors I believe are important are the following:

  • Are you quitting for yourself?  It is important to ask yourself this question as if you are not necessarily quitting for yourself then to be honest, there is no point in attempting to quit.  This is because you will not have the willpower to give up resulting in failing.  If you are either quitting due to being ‘advised’ or ‘told’ to quit either by a family member, friend or partner then lets be honest, do you ever listen to what others tell you and is it really what you want?
  • Is it what you want?  If you want to give up smoking you have to ensure that it is yourself who makes this decision, if you are pressured into quitting smoking then you have a high possibility of failing.  Quitting for yourself means that you as a person will know and feel that it is the right time, feeling more confident about such a task without yourself feeling a dreadful weight on your shoulders due to pressure from others.  It also means that you are doing it for your own reasons and beliefs not anyone elses, this resulting in you having a higher chance of succeeding as it is what YOU want!
  • Cold Turkey or Assistance?  Do you want my honest opinion on this question?  Go cold turkey, if you honestly feel that it is the right time to do it then go cold turkey straight away, the important thing to remember is to notHESITATE.  Hesitation is when you stall the process and it leaves you thinking and thinking and thinking, thinking leads to not believing in yourself and loosing that confidence you found to quit!  Nicorette patches or whatever they are, in my opinion, are just stalling the process of you quitting altogether because, lets face it, it may mean that you cut down on however many a day that you’re having but it still isn’t getting rid of those tiny nicotine bugs within your system and they are robbing you off a hell of a lot of money, for something that you don’t need.  And then when it eventually comes down to you stop using this so called ‘assistance’ you will still have to go through the phase of fighting those little nicotine bugs from out of your system!  The same way as you would if you stopped smoking straight away.  At least if you go cold turkey you are fighting the nicotine bugs straight away and not stalling the process!  My opinion?  If you have assistance then it isn’t the right time for you but if you go cold turkey just out of the blue then it will prove much more effective!
  • Planning to quit?  Personally if you ask me, I don’t believe that you should plan the exact date and time that you should quit smoking because all you’ll be doing until that date is biting your finger nails and getting yourself worked up about stopping, psychologically making yourself more anxious and agrivated before you’ve even started.  I tried numerous occasions where I would sit there and plan the exact date I would quit and then when it got to that date, i’d think ‘Nope, don’t want to quit now, maybe another day’ and this resulted in me to keep stalling.  However, when I quit it was out of the blue when I thought one day when I got up ‘enough is enough’ and I haven’t touched a fag since then.  So I think that it is incredibly important for yourself to know inside that you want to quit and then when your body and your mind feel like you’re ready then go for it straight away without planning, think of it as being spontaneous!  and being spontaneous can add a lot of excitement in your life.
  • When you quit, will you avoid temptations?  Of course you will, its what ‘professionals’ advise for you to do.  Well to me I think thats a load of crud!  How are you meant to be successful at quitting if you are not able to resist temptation and instead of fighting temptations you cower away from them?  You should go near temptations and not avoid them as this will help you quit even more!  It will prepare you for the challenges and help you get used to the everyday challenges that you will face from now on.  Temptation is hard to resist but will you give in?  Hopefully not, if you don’t give in to temptation everytime you come across one then treat yourself by maybe buying a bar of chocolate or eating a boiled sweet, you can see it as training yourself and it proves to be really effective as it worked on me.
  • Pick out the negative parts of smoking on other smokers once you have quit, this will help you pick out all those things that you never noticed when you were a smoker.  Picking out the negative faults on smokers, meant that I (and you) will steer closer towards being healthy individuals as it will gradually put you off and see why you are spontaneously quitting smoking in the first place.  First you will notice the stench that it has left on their clothes when they come back inside after a smoke, you will notice that it smells horrific, it’s that bad that now it makes me gag.  Second of all, you will notice how their skin looks really unhealthy and possibly pale and this will make you feel more confident about yourself as you will no longer compare yourselves to them.  There are many negative points that you will pick up on such as the smell of the smoke, that horrific and unhealthy smokers cough and the worst of them all is the stench of a smokers breath!  Now, I can’t even go near someone who has had a smoke without them brushing or chewing gum!  Overall, picking out the negative parts will surely steer you further and further away from temptation of having one yourself!

There are the points that I find the most important factors that you should consider before and during your road to healthiness and success!  Below there is one more point I have to make for those partners out there who are non-smokers yet the other partner is.

  • Got a partner who is a smoker and you’re a non-smoker?  Then don’t pressure them into it!  If you are a non-smoker yourself and you have either recently got into a relationship with them or have been in a long lasting relationship with them then it is important that you remember not to pressure them into quitting smoking, as this is a delicate subject for some.  If you want them to stop smoking then gently hint this to them or let them make the decision on their own, but if you do decide to hint then please don’t be too forward on the matter as this has the possibility to lead them to rebel against you or it can push them away.  Make sure that you support your partners choices, if they decided to quit then help them by giving them support such as maybe keeping them active and rewarding them for every time they avoid a temptation or even for everyday that they have stopped smoking.  Easier said then done ay?  (Find some tips below to how you can reward your partner, mainly for those male non-smokers!)
  • It would be easier for a woman to reward their pre-smoking partners as hey its what a woman’s good at but for those men with smoking female partners, try buying her flowers or some chocolates or even taking her out to see a movie or to her favourite restaurant as not only will this mean that you could possibly ‘get in there’ but it also shows them that you are on their side and that you are extremely proud of what they’re doing not only for themselves but also for you.  This resulting in them gaining more confidence and self-belief which pushes them that extra step forward to being healthy and successful!

I hope that this post has helped, and hopefully influenced, individuals to consider stopping smoking.  If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Much love.

Lets meet Socks

This is Socks, he is my companion in life!  I got him from my other half’s cousin and since then we have been inseparable.  His personality is one of a kind, he was shy at first and now he will meow at every chance he gets!  He also plays fetch with nerf bullets and little fur balls and he also rub my windows clean with his paws when he wants to go out, which is rather annoying when all you can hear is that irritating squeaking noise!  Little critter.  Anyway, I will be keeping you up to date on his latest mischief’s and adventures!

So hopefully, you’ll decide to keep an eye on him!  Much love.Socks
